Alaska Dating

Chilly and alluring, Alaska is one of the most beautiful states not only in the United States, but it is also considered as one of the most magnificent places in the world. However, not many people are aware about the beauty of Alaska. Almost everyone will automatically think that it is just an impossibly cold chunk of land, with nothing to do but stare at the vast expanse of ice and mountains. Contrary to popular belief, there are a whole lot of things to do and places to see in this gloriously white paradise. The place even cradles its own natural hot springs, a stark contrast from the cold weather, making the place all the more fascinating to begin with.

Quick History

If you were looking for someone that you can spend the rest of your life with in Alaska, it would be best that you at least, know something about the place. So why don’t we start on its history? After all, aren’t you a tad bit curious as to why Alaska became one of the fifty states of the United States? It is way up north, right beside Canada, so how did this happen?

It all started out when the Russian government decided to sell Alaska on 1867, to the Secretary of State William Seward. The U.S. administration got it for only 7.2 million dollars! At the time, acquiring a barren ice land seems foolish, thus this deal was known as Seward’s Folly and Seward’s Iceberg. It is the forty-ninth state of the United States and it is also the first state that has signed in the Union. It may look useless to Russia but decades after it was acquired, this place is abundant with natural treasures, and it even has gold! Looking back, Seward’s Folly certainly doesn’t look foolish at all, don’t you think?

A Little Bit of the Extremes

There are no gray areas when it comes to Alaska. It is a world full of contrasts and opposites, no in-betweens. This state is famous for its coldness and for its warmth. Yes, you read that right. Although Alaska has a very cold temperature, one of its attractions includes hot springs that can go up to a hundred degrees Fahrenheit. It is also known for its native tribes that live in isolated communities as well as advanced cities that lace the area with commercial infrastructure and hub for the entire world to see.

Alaska is the coldest state in the country. Its warmest temperature is at negative degrees Fahrenheit, which is still freezing. Since it is located at the uppermost hemisphere of the planet, you will find the length of its daylight is just as extreme. When summer comes, nighttime almost never occurs. The sun literally shines for twenty hours a day! Which explains the reason why the state is called the “Land of the Midnight Sun.” Same goes with winter when darkness consumes the whole place, as the sun is almost never seen.

Nicknames

As earlier mentioned, Alaska is called as the “Land of the Midnight Sun” mainly because the sun is known to shine way past midnight during summer. It is also called as “The Last Frontier” because it certainly is the last civilized place that you will see in the northern hemisphere.

Economy and Population

Alaska may be an extremely cold place but it is certainly a rich state with an annual household income of over forty thousand dollars, making it the fifteenth, most successful state in the country. This is due to its invaluable resources that include oil, gas, and gold. Fishing is also abundant and many products such as salmon, cod, crab, and Pollock come from Alaska.

As for its population, this state is one of most densely populated in the United States. In fact, it is ranked as the 47th less populous state of the nation.  However, Alaska is the largest state per area and is considered as the 10th wealthiest, with an unemployment rate running as low as six percent. For an isolated place, they are certainly doing pretty well.

The Crossroads of the World

Another interesting thing about Alaska is that it is known as the “Air Crossroads of the World.” This is because this is where aircrafts from Asia, Europe, and the United States stop to refuel, thus making this place crucial to the aviation industry.  It also contains highly advanced radars so that the government can detect for any suspicious attack coming from the North Pole.

Sledding with the Dogs

A great place to visit is Juneau, which is also the state capital of Alaska. However, no cemented roads are available so you would need to access the metro via boat or plane. Ride the sled dogs as you and your match tour the city full of winter delights. Although Juneau is the capital, Sitka is the largest metropolis so visiting this city is also worth your time. If you’re lucky, you might want to check out dog sleds competition, which takes place in Iditarod Trail.

Valley of Ten Thousand Smokes

Here is one of the wonders of the state wherein smoke and gas rises through volcanic vents and fumes. You would be surprised to know that Alaska has a lot of volcanoes, and the Valley of Ten Thousand Smokes is the proof that these monumental fiery mountains really do exist.

Looking for that special someone here in this cold but wonderful state is not at all difficult because although the state is wealthy of natural resources, its residents still maintain a simple way of living. They do honor someone who can keep their own word and who knows how to respect nature because that is what they do. They respect their resources so they can maintain their healthy economy.
